Hardly eight per cent of the total 1,480 government and government aided schools in Goa have so far registered for Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025-26, a mandatory programme to empower schools to self-assess for a clean, green and inclusive school environment in the State. The Union Education Ministry has directed all the States to ensure that the affiliated schools are registered on the SHVR portal or using mobile app by August 31 and the survey process is completed by September 30.
In Goa so far, total 201 schools – 101 in North and 100 in South – have initiated the process to register of which 120 have registered on the portal and eight schools have completed the survey (the data is till the time the article went for publication). The communication to all the States was sent last month.
Schools can visit the SHVR website at shvr.education.gov.in where they will find QR codes for downloading the Android and iOS mobile apps.
For web-portal based participation, the schools can use the Login/ Signup option available at the homepage, the CBSE added.
The Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025-26 was launched by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in July which is a revitalised, expanded and universal version of the earlier Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP) – the one introduced way back in 2016-17.
The aim of the SHVR is to empower schools to self-assess and improve across six key categories, namely, water, toilets, handwashing with soap, operation & maintenance, behaviour change & capacity building and mission LiFE activities.
The Ministry has noted that a few States have not yet initiated the registration process while the performance in other States is negligible.
“States and UTs are expected to ensure that 100 per cent school heads register by August 31 and complete the forms also,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry informed recently in a press statement that there will be four categories of schools for recognition (certificate of merit).
In the month of October, the Ministry will initiate a process to select schools for recognition at the District level - there are a total of 8 schools which include 3 schools of rural category-I, 3 schools of rural category-II, 1 school of Urban category-I, and 1 school of Urban category-II.
Further, the nomination of schools at State level will be held from November 7 to December 7 and cross validation at national level will be done between December-February, 2026.
The schools will be awarded star ratings based on the scores. Any score below 35 per cent will be considered for single star.
