Goa's rich cuisine known for its seafood, Xitt-Kodi, bebinca and other traditional delicacies, has failed to make it to the popular global food guide - Taste Atlas 2024/25 rankings.

The lists for the '100 Best Cuisines in the World' and the 'Top 100 Indian Foods' has a mention of Delhi, Hyderabad and even Mumbai but not Goa.

While the list is known for celebrating the best of global and Indian cuisines, Goa's distinct flavours and fusion of Portuguese and Indian influences didn’t make the cut.

India, however, fared well in the rankings, securing the 12th position in the world’s best cuisines. Signature Indian dishes such as Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken) and Hyderabadi Biryani were ranked 29th and 31st in the 100 Best Dishes in the World list, both earning a remarkable 4.52 stars out of 5. Other popular Indian favourites like Chicken 65 (ranked 97) and Keema (ranked 100) also made the cut. In addition, Indian vegetarian dishes dominated the Best Vegetable Dishes category, with Malai Kofta and Misal Pav securing the top two spots. Other beloved staples like Amritsari Kulcha and Garlic Naan ranked second and third in the Best Breads category.

While Goa did not make it to the top 100 cuisines list, it was acknowledged in a different light. Several traditional Goan restaurants received recognition in the Best Traditional Restaurants to Eat at in India category. Establishments like Viva Panjim, Ashok Bar, Sher-E-Punjab, Mum's Kitchen, and Bhaiyya's Pav Bhaji in Panaji, as well as O’ Coqueiro Restaurant in Porvorim, Martin’s Corner in Betalbatim, Souza Lobo in Calangute, Britto’s in Baga, Florentine in Saligao, and Fatima Bar & Restaurant in Agonda, were highlighted for their long-standing reputations and the authenticity of their offerings.
