All the eight government officials, who were issued show-cause notices in connection with the Shirgao Zatra stampede, have filed their replies.
Six people were killed and close to 100 were injured in the stampede that took place in the first week of May.
Following preliminary inquiry, the government had issued show-cause notices to the eight officials, including the then North Goa district magistrate, North Goa SP, deputy collector of Bicholim, DySP of Bicholim, PIs of Bicholim and Mopa police stations, and panchayat secretary of Shirgao. These officials were on duty during the tragedy and have been transferred since.
Speaking to The Goan, Chief Secretary V Candavelou confirmed that all the officers have replied to the show-cause notices. “The course of action will be followed,” he said.
Candavelou said that the replies will be examined by him before submitting it to the Disciplinary Committee.
The fact-finding committee report had collectively held the temple committee, district administration, district police, village panchayat, and crowd behaviour, particularly that of ‘dhonds’, responsible for the tragedy.
