Goa Governor, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid tributes to former Defence Minister and ex-Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on his death anniversary at Miramar today.

Speaking to media persons after the State function at Smriti Sthal, Miramar, the Governor praised Parrikar’s progressive vision in the defence sector. He noted, “Parrikar played a key role in encouraging the inclusion of women in the armed forces at a time when it was largely male-dominated.”

He also credited Parrikar with promoting the establishment of Sainik Schools for girls nationwide.

Expressing grief, the Governor said he wished Parrikar had lived longer to witness the impact of these initiatives.

CM Sawant, while briefing the media, described Parrikar as the “architect of modern Goa,” highlighting his role in driving innovation and development in the state. He added, “Parrikar’s contributions as both Goa Chief Minister and India’s Defence Minister will always be remembered.”
