Days after a Goan youth was rescued from an illegal cyber scam centre in Myanmar, Goa Police’s Cyber Crime Cell has arrested three persons, including a Kazakhstan national of Chinese origin, for their alleged involvement in an international cyber trafficking syndicate.
The accused have been identified as Adithya Ravichandran (22) from Tamil Nadu, Rupnarayan Gupta (36) from Maharashtra, and Talaniti Nulaxi (22), a Kazakhstan national of Chinese origin.
Details shared by Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Rahul Gupta stated that the accused are charged with luring Indian job seekers with fake job offers and forcing them into cyber fraud operations in Southeast Asia.
A young engineering graduate from Goa was among 283 victims rescued from illegal scam centres in Myanmar by the Government of India. The large-scale crackdown resulted in the release of nearly 7,000 workers from over two dozen countries, including India. Many had fallen prey to fraudulent job offers and were subjected to exploitative working conditions.
The Goan victim was promised a job in Thailand with a monthly salary of Rs 60,000 as a call centre employee. However, he was forced to contact potential victims in the United States and persuade them to invest in fake trading companies or engage in honey-trapping.
Gupta said that a case was registered and investigations began soon after.
