Frequent power outages dominated the gram sabha of the village Panchayat of Chinchinim, with members demanding underground cabling to fix the power issues.
The gram sabha members have further demanded that the landlords should first get the migrants verified before letting their premises on rent to the tenants.
These two issues took centre stage at the gram sabha of the Chinchinim village panchayat chaired by Sarpanch Frank Viegas on Sunday.
Members highlighted the plight of the villagers due to frequent power failures. They pointed out that no day passes without three-four power failures, affecting the villagers.
The sarpanch explained the steps initiated by the panchayat by taking up the issues, including manpower shortage and logistics, with the power officials.
After much discussion, the members demanded that the government take up underground cabling in the village on priority and give relief to the villagers from power outages.
The tenant verification issue also dominated at the gram sabha as it does on the heels of the recent thefts and burglaries reported in the village. Agitated members demanded that no landlord should give their premises on rent to the tenants before verification of the antecedents of the migrants.
They pointed out that existing tenant verification exercise takes months to confirm the background of the tenants, especially those hailing from the North Indian states.
Sarpanch Frank Viegas later told the media that the gram sabha also discussed the issue of construction of Panchayat Ghar by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation as part of phase-I of the project at the panchayat acquired property.
