The collision between a truck and a scooter at Nayaband-Cuncolim resulted in the rider’s death.

A scooter rider from Barcem, Kamlesh Gaonkar died in a road accident on the National Highway stretch at Nayaband-Cuncolim late Saturday night.
Cuncolim police informed that the driver of an Ashok Leyland truck drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life, while proceeding from Cuncolim towards Balli.
When the truck reached opposite Goa Kaju Darbar at Nayaband-Cuncolim, it collided with an oncoming Activa scooter that was heading from Balli towards Cuncolim.
As a result of the impact, the rider, Kamlesh Gaonkar, a resident of Barcem, sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to them while undergoing treatment at the South District Hospital in Margao.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party’s Goa State Joint Secretary, Prashant Naik, has pointed out that several people have lost their lives or suffered serious injuries in accidents at the Nayaband-Cuncolim turn and has demanded permanent corrective measures in these accident-prone areas to prevent further tragedies.
Giving detailed information about previous fatalities at this turn, Naik said the loss of young rider is truly unfortunate. He said the youth who died in the accident was an electrician on his way to work in Benaulim. “With his death, not only has the family lost a key member, but also their hopes for a better future have been shattered. In a past incident, two youth from Padi lost their lives in a similar accident while commuting to work,” he said.
He added; “Many have died or have been permanently injured due to accidents on this stretch of the highway. The rising number of fatalities and the grief-stricken cries of families affected are heart-wrenching. The government must immediately implement safety measures at these sharp curves and accident-prone zones along the highway to prevent further loss of life.
