The Maharashtra police were seen entering into Goa border and doing ‘nakabandi’ at the Patradevi check post, while Pernem police were absent at the scene, which raised local eyebrows.

After repeated complaints about the smuggling of alcohol to a large extent from the Patradevi check post, Maharashtra police from Sindhudurg crossed the border and entering Goa, did a vigilance exercise, checking every vehicle meticulously on Saturday.

When the Maharashtra police inspector was called to ask what this whole exercise was about, he said that the joint mission was carried out to keep the relations between the two border states amicable. If the Goa police suspect that vehicles from Maharashtra are entering Goa illegally, they can also enter the Maharashtra border and do such surveillance.

The smuggling of alcohol has been occurring from Goa to Maharashtra for the past many months. The vehicles that were not caught at Patradevi were checked at Sindhudurg Banda and Insuli Aros, and alcohol worth Rs thousands was seized.

However, the Pernem excise officials were not conducting such an operation, and the locals are questioning on this lethargy from the police. The Maharashtra police checked even the two-wheeler riders.
