History has seemingly taken a 360 degree turn. Nearly six decades after Maharashtra's political leadership bitterly but unsuccessfully fought to annexe Goa, now a taluka of that State has raised a demand that it be merged with Goa for better development and an end to its neglect by the administration.

In Ajra, adjoining Maharashtra's Dodamarg taluka close to the Goa border, several social and business organisations have in writing demanded that their taluka be included in the State of Goa.

In the memorandum, these organisations have cited the lack of development in Ajra taluka and continuous political and administrative neglect. The memorandum has been submitted to the Ajra mamlatdar (tehsildar) with a request to forward it to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.

The memorandum also says that geographical features of Ajra are similar to that of Goa.

Prakash Konduskar of Ajra Taluka Cashew Processing Association, Tanaji Desai of Swabhimani Farmers' Association and several activists including Sanjay Tardekar of Shramik Mukti Dal, Shivaji Gurav of Maharashtra Dam Victims Association, Raju Holam of Ajra Taluka Poultry Business Association (Raju Holam) among others have signed the memorandum.
