Five persons have been booked on charges of assaulting a man and his son at Grand Morod in Saligao over dispute over rent-a-bike business.

Manjit Naik of Grand Morod filed a complaint with Saligao Police stating that the accused, Krishna Kerkar, Rajendra Kerkar and Dilip Kerkar, had assaulted him and his father, Mahesh, on January 18 at about 5 pm near a hotel in Grand Morod, causing injuries to them and further threatened them with dire consequences.

Manjit claimed that when Mahesh tried intervene to save Manjit from being assaulted, the accused, Latesh Mandrekar and Nilesh Mandrekar stopped the complainant’s father, thereby wrongfully restraining him.

According to sources, residents in the area around the hotel operate a rent-a-bike business. To ensure that everyone gets customers, the individuals involved have formed an association and had implemented a queue system.

However, the complainant, Manjit Naik, is reportedly not affiliated with this group and was obtaining customers independently.

On the day of the incident, the complainant received customers directly from the hotel management. The accused questioned the hotel management about this. When Manjit Naik arrived there with his father, an argument ensued and it turned into a physical assault. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras.

Saligao police have registered an offence under Sections 117(2), 351(3), 126(2) r/w 3(5) BNS Act and have issued notices to all of them to appear for questioning. Further investigation is in progress.
