MARGAO
With the Transport department floating the tender to build the Margao bus stand on Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has said that he would seek details from the Transport Director on the bus stand proposal.
When the media sought to know the reaction of the PWD Minister to the tender floated by the Transport department on the Rs 251 crore Margao bus stand, Kamat said there is no doubt on the need to build the bus stand. He, however, said that he has no idea how the Transport Department is going about to build the bus stand.
“The Transport department had come to see me to brief on the Margao KTC bus stand. Since I had a tight schedule, I have not asked for detailing. I will now ask him for the details”, Kamat said.
Kamat’s reaction assumes significance since the proposal to build the bus stand on PPP mode has been red flagged by Goa Forward party Chief Vijai Sardesdai. In fact, Sardesai has said the bus stand proposal on PPP Mode looks more like a proposal to build shopping malls with little space for buses and parking.
The Fatorda MLA has warned that unless the stakeholders are taken into confidence by the government, the people of Fatorda will not allow the project to see light of the day.
Meanwhile, the PWD Minister has said that the Margao Municipal Council’s proposal to set up hydraulic parking in the commercial capital will received the nod from the Finance committee. Given this development, Kamat said Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) will float a tender to set up the parking facilty next week.
Similarly, he said the SGPDA has accorded approval the plans for the renovation of the Margao Municipal building. He said the MMC renovation plan will now go to the Conservation Committee for approval.
