AAP MLA Venzy Viegas was questioned by the police on Tuesday in connection with the agitation against Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act, becoming the third legislator to be quizzed after Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and AAP MLA Cruz Silva, who were questioned on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after his questioning, Viegas strongly criticised the government and the police action, insisting that the protest was not an act of rioting but a demonstration against Section 39A of the TCP Act.
“Why are we unnecessarily harassed? The house where the people marched is not even in the name of TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane,” Viegas said, questioning the basis of the case registered by the police.
The questioning is related to the third FIR registered on February 28 against Alemao, MLAs Carlos Ferreira, Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, along with Revolutionary Goans Party chief Manoj Parab and around 1,200-1,500 others.
The FIR pertains to an alleged unlawful protest staged outside Rane’s private residence at Dona Paula amid growing outrage over Section 39A. The police had stated that the protest was held without prior permission and demonstrators allegedly blocked the entire stretch of D B Marg up to Dona Paula for more than eight hours, severely disrupting traffic movement in the area.
