Project forms part of vital 153-km NH-748 highway

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday announced sanctioning Rs 1,060.21 crore for the four-laning of the 7-kilometre Bhoma to Old Goa stretch along NH-748. The project forms part of the vital 153-kilometer highway, formerly NH-4A, connecting NH-48 near Belagavi in Karnataka to NH-66 near Panaji in Goa.
Gadkari took to his social media account to inform about the sanction stating that the highway is a key route for passenger and freight movement from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to Goa.
“With this upgradation, the entire Panaji–Khandepar corridor will feature a four-lane roadway with paved shoulders. Owing to severe congestion and limited Right of Way in Bhoma, Corlim, and Ella, two elevated corridors totalling 4.275 km and 7-meter-wide service roads on both sides have been proposed,” Gadkari said.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hailed the decision thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gadkari for the Centre’s focus on upgrading infrastructure in Goa.
“The double engine sarkar under the visionary leadership of PM is revolutionizing mobility and infrastructure in Goa through the development of National Highways and Elevated Corridors. The NH-748 connecting Panaji to Belagavi will significantly improve ease of travel for commuters and boost business transport while strengthening a key link to the southern states,” Sawant said.
He further asserted that the government is committed to inclusive development including resolving local issues while improving travel convenience and reducing commute times in the region.
