'Need improvement' students allowed to take SSC, HSSC Board exams

Students of Class IX and Class XI who were declared ‘Need Improvement’ during the academic Year 2025-26 will be permitted to appear as private candidates for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) public examinations for the current term.

The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has decided to continue the existing scheme that enables students who have not met the required academic standards in Class IX and Class XI to directly appear for the SSC and HSSC public examinations as private candidates.

According to a circular issued by the Board, students who appeared for Class IX and Class XI examinations during the Academic Year 2025-26 and whose results carried the remark "Needs Improvement" will be eligible to register as private candidates for the SSC and HSSC examinations scheduled in the Academic Year 2026-27.

For SSC examinations, eligible students will be required to apply for all 10 subjects, including theory papers, practical examinations and internal assessment components, in accordance with the current syllabus and assessment pattern prescribed by the Board.
