The Crime Branch arrested a Nigerian national and seized suspected cocaine worth nearly Rs 16 lakh in an early-morning raid at Pilerne last Friday.
The accused, identified as Omorigo Friday (42), was found in alleged illegal possession of a white crystalline powder suspected to be cocaine.
The CB stated that the contraband weighed 31.794 grams and is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 15.89 lakh in the international market. The police also seized other articles along with a two-wheeler.
In a related development, the CB also arrested a second accused, Sudhir Paleinkar (42), of Sangolda, on Sunday for sharing his bike with the foreigner without filling out the mandatory details.
“Paleinkar provided his private scooter to Omorigo Friday and failed to submit the mandatory ‘C’ form to the police, thereby concealing the identity of the Nigerian national.
"As per the investigation, the parcel containing the contraband, which was received by the first accused through a courier service, was received by Paleinkar,” Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rahul Gupta said.
