With the tourist season underway and a heavy influx of visitors expected, Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Tuesday assured that any road closure related to the ongoing elevated corridor project will be undertaken only after providing clear alternative routes.
Speaking at a press conference, Khaunte said that he, along with Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, will review the progress of the works and assess traffic arrangements at the site at 10.30 am on Wednesday.
“Coordinated action between departments is key to ensuring smooth traffic flow and minimal inconvenience to commuters,” Khaunte said after chairing a meeting with stakeholders, including officials from the PWD, Traffic Cell, District Magistrate’s office, and other line departments.
Acknowledging public concerns about traffic congestion and dust pollution, Khaunte said he would hold discussions with PWD Minister Digambar Kamat to convey his inputs.
“While tourism should not be affected, locals should also not face inconvenience. Certain yardsticks must be followed to ensure the free movement of traffic. We will hold talks with the PWD Minister and provide an update on our suggestions to address these issues,” he stated, adding that daily traffic snarls, dust, have led to problems for residents and commuters.
