Sunak-led Conservatives field Goan candidates in UK council polls

PANAJI: The Conservative Party under former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has fielded candidates of Goan origin for the forthcoming UK local council elections, putting the spotlight on Goan representation within British politics.

Vasco native Alister D’Sa, a former general secretary of MES College, will contest from the Hounslow West ward in the London Borough of Hounslow. Alongside him is Vivek Ganachari from Colva, who is also in the fray on the Conservative Party ticket.

D’Sa, known for his student leadership days at MES College, later moved to the UK and has remained actively involved in community initiatives. Ganachari’s candidature further strengthens the Goan presence in the contest, adding to the growing interest among the Goan diaspora.

Parinoor Kaur is the third candidate contesting on the Conservative banner. With multiple candidates of Goan origin in the race, the Hounslow West polls are being keenly watched by the Goan community across the UK.
