Scheduled Tribe leader Dhaku Madkaikar on Wednesday lodged a complaint against Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai for making what he termed as “casteist” and “derogatory” statements directed at Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.
BJP ST leaders also directed their ire at the Goa Forward Party Chief, who represents the Fatorda constituency, for making statements against BJP leaders without any rhyme or reason.
Addressing the media in the presence of BJP South Goa District Party Chief and ST leader Prabhakar Gaonkar, Madkaikar said he has lodged a complaint with the Fatorda police with a plea to register an FIR against Vijai Sardesai and initiate action under Sections 352 and 363 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.
He said the Fatorda MLA called the Speaker a “puppet” at a public forum with a tone and expression that conveyed contempt for deliberately insulting a Constitutional Authority holding the highest position in the state legislature. “The Fatorda MLA has insulted and targeted the Gawda Scheduled Tribes community, of which the Speaker is a prominent member, and has created enmity and resentment between communities and lowered the dignity of the Scheduled Tribe community,” he stated in the complaint.
BJP ST leader Anthony Barbosa launched an all-out attack on the Fatorda MLA, demanding to know how the ST representation in the Margao Municipal Council from Fatorda has come down in the last election. “Sardesai had fielded a candidate in the ST area, but he did not deem it proper to field ST candidates. Fatorda has a sizeable ST population, and they should get adequate representation in the Margao Municipality,” Barbosa added.
