PANAJI: Colvale Police have arrested 22-year-old Chayyel Mondal from Dinajpur, West Bengal, for alleged involvement in multiple mobile phone thefts. A total of 13 stolen phones, valued at around Rs 2.4 lakh, were recovered from his possession.
The case came to light after a stolen Vivo IQOO phone, reported missing from Dattaprasad Petrol Pump in Colvale, was traced through the CEIR portal. Investigation revealed Mondal had allegedly sold the phones to Kuldeep Mahato, a cook in Mapusa, who was also questioned by police.
Efforts are ongoing to identify Mondal’s accomplices and recover any remaining stolen devices.
