Three people were injured in a road accident involving a truck and a scooter on the Honda–Sonshi road on Wednesday evening.
According to local residents, the truck was travelling from Honda towards Sonshi when the accident took place near Ajoba Temple. It is alleged that the vehicle moved to the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a scooter coming from Tumchi village towards Honda. After the impact, the truck hit a tree and overturned on the roadside. Locals claimed that the truck driver was heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident and demanded strict action against him.
The scooter rider, along with his wife and daughter, suffered injuries. Residents rushed to help and arranged medical assistance. The injured were first taken to Sankhali Sub-District Hospital in a 108 ambulance and later shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC) Hospital for further treatment. Traffic on the route was briefly affected as locals gathered at the spot and protested against reckless driving.
Residents also said the truck was being driven rashly through the Honda market area shortly before the accident. While no incident occurred in the market, it allegedly lost control while speeding on the Honda–Sonshi road and hit the scooter.
The Honda–Sonshi road, which has recently been upgraded with hot-mix, is widely used for transport. Locals said the wide stretch often encourages speeding, and noted that three accidents have occurred on the same road in the past four months.
Police from the Honda outpost visited the site, conducted a panchanama, and have begun further investigation.
