Over 4,000 students from nearly 75 government schools in the State are currently being trained in 15 different courses under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), a programme of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, implemented through Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

While NSQF was introduced in Goa during the academic year 2014-15 with four courses – Automobile, IT/ITeS, Healthcare and Retail in 38 schools; presently 75 government schools have been covered under the scheme with a total enrolment of 4,264 in 15 different courses.
These include – Automobile, IT/ITeS, Healthcare, Retail, Agriculture, Beauty and Wellness, Apparel, Physical Education, Construction, Telecommunication, Logistics, Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Travel and Tourism, Hospitality and Media and Entertainment.
The classes for these different courses are being conducted by nearly 144 instructors having industry experience in the respective sectors, which have been appointed on contract basis. Presently, the overall working of this scheme is looked after by three State coordinators – Bharat Naik, John Silveira and Nagendra Kore – who have been placed under working arrangement for four years.
Speaking to The Goan, Nagendra Kore informed that as part of the course, students are taken on visit to various industries aiming at providing practical training to them.
“As regards the Automobile course in concerned, we have taken the students to various industrial units like Sai Service, Chowgule Industries and Mukhtar Automobiles, among others. Here they get practical lessons in what the industry actually provides for,\" said Kore.
While healthcare course is being run in 27 schools with total enrolment of 1,037, BFSI is being offered at only one school with an enrolment of 32.
Another State coordinator Bharat Naik however informed that the certification of courses will be by Goa Board and also State Sector Skills Council, which is nationally recognised.
“Additionally, the courses are skill-based and developed as per the National Occupational Standards (NOS) generated by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), so that they become job oriented,\" said John Silveira.
