Four college going youngsters from Chinchinim in Salcettehave been making Konkani music lovers proud as they have been performing rightfrom the cultural interlude at the Dalgado Konknni Academy’s Silver Jubileeinaugural function in August. These four youngsters Sahil Coutinho, MinelliFuratado, Avina Furtado and Avinash Furtado have taken to the saxophonewith anatural flair.
At a time when youngsters think twice about blowinginstruments, these four youngsters have shown others that there is scope for playing blowinginstruments and it can get you recognition. These youngsters were the cynosureof all eyes at the glittering function. They have been trained to play thesaxophone under the guidance of Father Lyn Fernandes of the Chinchinim parishunder the auspices of the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) special Scheme meant totrain young musicians in playing blowing instruments.
The mainstay for tiatr music has traditionally been thecomposition of musicians who excel at playing wind instruments, and these fouryoungsters give a sign of reassurance that there are better days ahead for thesame. A greater number of youth should take inspiration from them, and take upthese instruments. The TAG has special schemes designed to support suchaspirants who wish to learn music via blowing instruments.
