Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Vice President Sunil Signapurkar targeted the BJP's double-engine government, saying that its leaders were busy holding events and functions while Goa's law and order is in shambles and collapsing.
Signapurkar was reacting to the reported firing incident in Pernem on Tuesday morning, where two workers in the taluka's sand-mining belt were injured.
"Criminals no longer fear the police because they know that by paying money, they can get away. It is time the people of Pernem and the entire Goa unite and end this," Signapurkar said.
Neither the BJP nor the Congress, which have ruled the State for decades, can end this 'gundaraj', he added.
AAP, meanwhile, continued its campaign for better roads and hit the ground in Saligao, where party Vice President Chetan Kamat visited the partially repaired Saligao-Pilerne Industrial Estate road.
Kamat said the party will continue its #BJPCheBurak campaign to force the government to repair all the rain-battered and damaged roads across Saligao.
He added that the government has ignored its duty to provide basic needs for the people, and AAP will continue this people’s movement until Goans get the roads they deserve.
Elsewhere in Quepem, AAP's Patricia Fernandes led a protest at Chodwa Sawod-Kajuwada Road, where a proper motorable road has eluded the people for over six decades since Goa's Liberation.
“People here are forced to walk through red mud. Pregnant women, students, and patients struggle every monsoon. Ambulances refuse to enter the village," Fernandes said, adding that the BJP government and MLAs have failed the people miserably.
“Permissions are denied to build roads for poor villagers, but the same Forest Department clears land for resorts, mining, and private projects overnight," Fernandes alleged, denouncing the government's stance of citing forest laws to defer construction of a road.
She demanded that the Forest Department immediately clear the file for road construction and that the PWD begin work within 30 days, providing regular updates to the public. “This road existed before Liberation — and still looks the same," Fernandes said.
“BJP and Congress both ruled Goa and failed to provide even basic infrastructure. AAP is the only party walking with the people, not over them,” said Kamat and Fernandes in a joint statement.
