PANAJI
Hundreds of commuters were stranded on Tuesday morning after drivers of all 48 electric buses under the Smart City Mission launched an unannounced strike over non-payment of salaries.
Services were disrupted for a few hours before the government intervened. A joint meeting was held with the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) and the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC), following which the drivers agreed to resume duties.
Officials assured that the pending salaries would be released without delay. The drivers, however, urged authorities to ensure that such delays do not recur, stating they have resumed work in good faith after assurance that salaries will be credited by Tuesday evening.
