They are the stars of the big screen and have left us impressed with their acting chops over and over again. But these stars have not stopped just at acting. They have also created waves in the music world with their talent. Here's a look at a few Hollywood actors who are equally famous for their music works
Johnny Depp
You've got to admit that Johnny Depp's swagger especially in Pirates of the Carribean made him perfect for a rock band. And well, turns out that actor was actually a part of a 90's project P which also included Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The actor has also recorded solo work on his guitar and performed alongside big rock names like Iggy Pop and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. Last year the actor also teamed up with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry to form Hollywood Vampires which plays music of the rock stars who died from excess in the 1970s.
Jared Leto
The Joker actor is part of the popular alt rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars , who rose to platinum prominence with their 2005 album A Beautiful Lie and in 2013, released their Virgin Records swan song Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams. . In fact the band was started in 1998 as a a collaboration between brothers Jared Leto and Shannon Leto, who had been playing music together since their childhood.
Russell Crowe
We heard Russel Crowe showing off his vocals in the 2012 film version of Le Miserables, but the Gladiator stud has quite the rock'n'roll frontman history. 30 Odd Foot of Grunts (TOFOG) was formed in Australia in the early nineties but dissolves in 2005. Following this the band reformed as
Russell Crowe & the Ordinary Fear of God and released their first album later that year entitled My Hand, My Heart.
Zooey Deschanel
Crooning to Baby It's Cold Outside in the Elf was probably one of our favorite music moments from Zoeey Deschanel. And the star of FOX's The New Girl is in fact part of an indie rock band. She & Him. Deschanel's collaboration with folk guitar hero M. Ward, has given the world three delightfully retro records since 2008, including a Christmas album in 2011. Their third non-holiday offering, titled Volume 3, dropped in 2013.
Jada Pinkett Smith
Everyone knows Will Smith's famous tune Get Jiggy With It. But he's not the only musically inclined in the family. Wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith who is presently a part of TV show Gotham formed a metal band "Wicked Wisdom" back in 2002 and performs under the stage name "Jada Koren." Thew band has given us tracks like Bleed all over me and Something inside of me and even landed a slot on Ozzfest in 2005.
Ryan Gosling
The Notebook star is part of the band Dead Man’s Bones together with his friend Zach Shields. The band which debuted in 2009 plays stark, percussive, soul-haunted rock with Gosling performing under the alias Baby Goose. The band focuses on playing tracks that are love stories about ghosts and monsters
Taylor Momsen
The actress who is mostly known for her role of Jenny Humphrey in the TV show Gossip Girl is the frontwoman of the rockband Pretty Reckless. The band's debut album Light Me Up was released on August 30, 2010 in the UK. They have since given us hits like "Heaven Knows" and "Messed Up World.
Jack Black
If you thought Jack Black rocked in his role as musician in films like School of Rock and The Holiday, wee, the actor is actually a part of "mock rock" duo Tenacious D. His collaboration with Kyle Gass has spawned anthems including "Tribute" and "Wonderboy" -- but more importantly, several truly epic music videos that will go down in history, including "Kickapoo' , which features rocker Meatloaf.
