The minor student, who was seriously injured in the acid attack at Dhargal on Monday, is still critical but responding to treatment with Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) plastic surgeons having conducted multiple procedures on him.
Still on ventilator, the boy has undergone plastic surgery and a team of doctors led by Dr Yuri Dias is treating him, according to surgeon and GMC's Medical superintendent, Dr Rajesh Patil.
Several precautions are being taken with regard to making sure that the boy is insulated from infections. He has regained consciousness but is in no condition to speak at the moment, Patil indicated, adding that any further surgical or other treatment procedures will be carried out only after his overall condition stabilises.
Acid was flung on the boy on Monday morning while he was waiting to go to college by one Nilesh Gajanan Desai from Dodamarg allegedly as revenge for the unnatural death of his daughter.
Desai was arrested within hours of the incident and police are investigating the case.
The victim who suffered burns on his face, including his cheeks, eyes and nose, was first admitted to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa and then quickly shifted to the GMC where he is now being treated.
