A restaurant-cum-club in Anjuna was sealed by authorities on Tuesday after it was found flouting noise pollution norms and continuing operations despite an earlier suspension order.
The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had on June 18 suspended the operations of the establishment, identified as ‘Ms Diaz’, for failing to comply with mandatory noise monitoring requirements.
During a recent inspection, GSPCB officials discovered that the club’s online noise monitoring system had been deliberately concealed inside a wooden box, rendering it ineffective and failing to record ambient sound data as required. The Board concluded that the club had violated its “consent to operate” conditions and issued a suspension of operations.
However, locals alleged that despite the official order, the club continued to play loud music well into the night, disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood.
Complaints made by residents to police and other authorities reportedly went unheeded, prompting a joint enforcement action.
On Tuesday, a team comprising officials from the Department of Tourism, GSPCB, and the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) conducted an inspection and sealed the premises of Ms Diaz for continued violations.
