While it has become quite common to see Bollywood actors paired with actresses who are practically half their age, of late quite a few of Bollywood’s top actresses' have been cast opposite costars who are younger than them. A case in point in the recently released film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil sees Ranbir Kapoor romancing a much older Aiswarya Rai Bachchan. Here's a looks at a few other notable examples
Wake Up Sid
The coming of age drama which portrayed Ranbir Kapoor as a rich spoilt brat who finally finds his calling thanks to the help of his older friend played by Konkona Sen Sharma went on to become a huge hit. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Ranbir received much acclaim for his acting skills and despite the age disparity between the two actors, the chemistry between the duo was crackling. The film went on to make Rs.22 crore at the box office.
Ki and Ka
Arjun Kapoor who publicly stated that he had a crush on Kareena Kapoor Khan for years finally got as chance to work with her in the recent film Ki and Ka. Despite the refreshing story idea, the film didn't really manage to hold the interest of the audience while on a personal level there were rumours that Saif Ali Khan wasn't too happy with Arjun's late night calls to his wife.
Dil Chahta Hai
Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut saw Akshaye Khanna falling for a much divorcee and alcoholic (Dimple Kapadia). The duo was more than 18 years apart in age! However, people didn't mind the age difference as it fit in well with the story line and the film is still one of the most loved till date.
English Vinglish
The ageless Sridevi showed the world a different side of the struggles of being an immigrant in America in her hit film, “English Vinglish which saw her cast opposite Algerian actor Mehdi Nebbou, another student in Sridevi’s English language class who fell in love with her—he was 10 years younger than her! However, she played a married woman and turned down the kind affection Nebbou, opting to keep their relationship a lovely friendship instead.
Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi
Despite the 13 year age difference between Akshay Kumar and Rekha, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi was received well by the audiece and the Umesh Mehra directed action film went on to make more than Rs.14 crore at the box office.
Shabd
The 2005 film directed by Leena Yadav saw college professor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fall in love with younger colleague Zayed Khan as part of a ploy by her author husband Sanjay Dutt. The film grossed about Rs.5 crore at the box office
Being Cyrus
Another Dimple Kapadia flick, the actress took on a role as a neglected housewife who falls for her husband’s new apprentice—Saif Ali Khan who is 13 years younger than Kapadia. The dark film with its twists and family secrets was nominated for multiple Filmfare Awards.
