PROJECT
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is following the GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) system for the sustainable and environmentally friendly design and the extension building will be constructed as per ECBC norms and obtain a 4-star GRIHA rating.
The tender for the work was awarded via EPC mode to M/s Vascon Engineers Ltd and is expected to complete by end of 2022. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change gave a go-ahead to the project by granting Environmental Clearance on May 25.
Earlier, the AAI jointly with the Indian Navy had taken up the Parallel Taxi Track project and put into operation from December 2019, which reduced the runway occupancy and turnaround time of the aircraft and accommodated more aircraft per hour.
