Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday batted for the ‘assisted living’ concept in the State, besides satellite OPDs for the benefit of the people.

Speaking at the mega health camp organised as part of his initiative, the Health Minister said the Health Department will promote the ‘assisted living’ concept after consultations with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. “We will take the concept forward through the Town and Country Planning Department after the consultations with the Chief Minister, by giving relaxations. When families are settled abroad, the elderly and senior citizens are left alone back home in Goa. Whether they are poor or rich, they will get the facilities as part of the ‘assisted living’ concept.

Saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid stress on digitisation in all spheres of activity, Rane said the Health Department will soon open Satellite OPDs on a regular basis to cater to the health needs of citizens. “The Satellite OPDs will be attached to the specialities at the Goa Medical College, wherein doctors will go to the rural areas on rotation,” he said.

Referring to the criticism that he has not been able to fulfil the promises made in the past, the Health Minister said he has to literally slog to get the things done. “Today, the Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar has requested for facilities for a cardiac ambulance and 24x7 emergency services at Navelim. I want to assure him that the request will be fulfilled within 30 days.”
