Better to die of police bullets than coal dust: Goencho Ekvott

MARGAO
Goencho Ekvott Co-convenor Capt Viriato Fernandes on Tuesday asserted that the people of Goa will now talk since the government has failed to walk the talk on the contentious projects, reminding that no revolution has been able to achieve its goal without a sacrifice.

“Let us die of police bullets. If we remain alive, we will have to die of coal dust pollution. The government has failed to walk the talk and the time has come for the people to now to take a call,” Capt Viriato thundered at Davorlim.

Terming the Goa government as ineffective, Capt Viriato charged it with pushing the agenda of double-tracking and coal transportation to satisfy the corporates. “The administration also speaks the language of Adani. On October 13 when we met the Chief Minister, along with Deputy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar, he assured us to stop double-tracking work, but could not give a Diwali gift to the people of Goa by making an announcement. It is evident the Chief Minister is under pressure from Delhi,” he added.

Reminding Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues for his statement at the time of joining the BJP that he is a leader and the people should follow the leader, the Captain said, “Filipe should answer why people of Goa have hit the streets. These people have betrayed the trust of the people by going against the mandate.” He said the people of Goa will teach the leaders a lesson if they do not work keeping the interests of the people in mind.

“The Deputy Collector and the Railways should know that permission from the local body is required for construction as per the 73rd Constitutional Amendment. But so far no permissions obtained from the panchayat body have been furnished,” he rued.
