OnePlus 3T was launched this month, and the phone went on sale in US, Europe, UK markets on November 22 and the Chinese technology company has confirmed its coming to India on December 2. OnePlus 3T is an upgraded version of OnePlus 3 which was announced in June. OnePlus 3T gets a bump in processor, front camera and battery compared to the OnePlus 3. However, OnePlus 3T launch has left many wondering why the company decided to go for this new flagship within months of announcing OnePlus 3.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, Aaron from company’s ROM Team and a few other OnePlus staff took to Reddit to answer queries on product, software, shipping, after-sales service, and more. On being asked why OnePlus 3T has been launched within 6 months of OnePlus 3’s launch, Pei said, “We had the capability to improve the product, wanted to try it out, so we did. We think in a simple way. :)” Reddit users also asked questions relating to Android 7.1 Nougat, Daydream compatibility and more.

Android 7.0 or 7.1?

We are initially shipping with 7.0, 7.1 was released midway through development and integrating it would have delayed the update.

Why not support Daydream?

Daydream was announced after the product design of the OnePlus 3, so we did not design is with Daydream compatibility in mind.

Update cycle for OP3 and OP3T?

Both devices will be on the same update schedule following Nougat.

Why not improve rear camera?

We didn’t have any improvements ready to go.

Hello! When you have the option to pu1t 2 sim cards in the phone, why not make it to be able to put 1 sim card and an sd card instead of the second sim card.

What’s the pain point that SD card solves? We now have a 128GB UFS2.0 version that performs so much better than any external storage could.

3rd party chargers:

The only info I can find on charging the 3T talks about Dash Charging, but I’m curious about “normal”/slow charging with other chargers. For instance, can I charge the 3T with the 5V/3A charger for my current Nexus 5X without any risk of damage?

You’re free to use 3rd party chargers, but the dash charging will only kick in with the official cable and adapter.

Will the future line up be 4, then 4T, 5, 5T, etc?

Honestly don’t know, we’ll have to see how this one goes. It’s too early to tell.

Do you guys see yourself releasing multiple product lines in the near future? Something to cater to a wider variety of use cases (like Samsung with the S and Note).

Maybe when we’re 10x our current size. Still a lot of work to do better before product line expansion.
