In a gruesome case that has shocked the local community, a migrant labourer was found murdered in a hut near a construction site at Parra late Monday night.
The victim, identified as Droupada Naik, was found with deep gashes to his head and neck and mutilated genitals, indicating a violent and deliberate attack.
Mapusa Police, acting swiftly, arrested two suspects – a father-son duo identified as Sattya Nabarangpura (50) and Thabir Nabarangpura (31) – both hailing from Odisha, the same State as the victim.
According to police, the victim was related to the accused duo.
Police have also recovered suspected weapons – a crowbar, waist belt and knife – used in the crime.
The three were reportedly residing together in a temporary shelter near the site where they were employed for villa construction work.
While the exact motive behind the brutal killing is still under investigation, police are probing all possible angles, including personal enmity and past disputes.
Police have registered a case of murder under section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
