A tourist from Pune has been arrested on charges of ramming his car and seriously injuring a security guard at a villa complex at Vagator on Tuesday.

In a police complaint filed by Rupali Das, wife of the injured security guard, Uttam Das (30), a native of Assam, her husband has been working as a security guard at the complex for the past four years.

The tourist, Sujan Chandravandan Mehta of Lonavala-Pune had arrived in the villa two days ago and Uttam Das, who was stationed at the security guard’s room near this gate, would close the gate of the complex after the tourists were outside the villa.

Mehta began arguing with Uttam and claimed that whenever the gate was closed, he would have to repeatedly call the security guard to open the gate, and allegedly demanded that the entrance gate be kept open.

On Tuesday, when Uttam went to open the gate, Mehta is alleged to have reversed his car and knocking down the security guard, seriously injuring him. People in the vicinity rushed to his aid and managed to pull him out, before shifting him to the Mapusa District Hospital from where he was later referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.

Acting on the complaint, Anjuna police later arrested the accused and is conducting further investigations into the case.
