Former Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) treasurer Ajay Kholkar on Monday signalled his faction’s readiness to take on sitting MLA Viresh Borkar, announcing that it would contest the 2027 Assembly elections and unveiling constituency committees in 18 constituencies across the State.
Addressing a press conference, Kholkar said the faction had already constituted committees in Pernem, Mandrem, Bicholim, Tivim, Siolim, Saligao, Aldona, Calangute, St Cruz, Shiroda, Curtorim, Benaulim, Priol, Madkai, Sanguem, Valpoi and Cuncolim, among other constituencies.
He said the next set of constituency committees would be announced in the coming days, adding that a separate committee would also be formed for St Andre.
Making his faction’s intentions clear, Kholkar said it was prepared to enter the electoral fray and contest the forthcoming Assembly elections.
He also indicated that the faction would initiate steps against Borkar, stating that it would write to the Speaker seeking the termination of the MLA.
The announcement comes amid the growing internal crisis within the regional party, with the emergence of Kholkar's faction adding a new dimension to the political battle within the RGP ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
