Taking its beautification drive a few notches higher, Rajendra Talak of the 'Clean Margao Green Margao Mission' planted some 35 coconut trees at the SGPDA parking lot extending from the Colva circle to KTC road on one side and from Colva circle to the far end of the District Court complex on the other.

Addressing media persons at the venue on Tuesday during the course of the plantation, Talak claimed some decorative plants are also being planted in the midst of these coconut trees to give the whole area an aesthetic look. “These trees will be watered by tankers on a daily basis for two months till the arrival of the monsoons. Then, we will proceed as per the directions of the gardeners,” Talak remarked.

He said drip irrigation facility has been introduced at the SGPDA fish market complex to water the plants at that venue planted by this Mission. Besides this, Talak also claimed to have got the gutters cleaned and filters fitted at strategic places on these gutters at the SGPDA fish market so as to filter out any solid waste thereby enabling the free flow of waste water to prevent its accumulation and consequent overflow.

“Very soon, we will also be on the verge of completion of the beautification of Part 1 of the Comba beautification drive by the end of April. Thereafter, we will undertake Part 2 of this drive,” Talak informed.

Asked whether he has received any formal response from the MMC to his proposal for door-to-door garbage collection, Talak replied in the negative. “We are waiting for the response. It is their responsibility to call the Clean Margao Green Margao Mission. Do systematic waste collection in one ward or they should take our advice,” he said.

Responding to another question about the erection of the gantry at Collector office, Talak said the fabrication work of the gantry is ready while only the assembling work is pending. “We will take up this work in April as I am waiting for the completion of DefExpo as many of the workers are engaged there,” added Talak.
