Dempo Sports Club scored an easy 2-0 win over Salgaocar Football Club in the Goa Football Association (GFA) Professional League match, played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday. The Golden Eagles scored through Kapil Hoble and Yogesh Kadam.
The match lived up to its expectations as both the teams played some attacking football from the word go. The first real chance fell to Dempo SC when Beevan D'Mello capitalised on Salgaocar FC's defensive lapse but the striker just couldn't get past the rival keeper Abijit Das.
The Green Brigade were forced to defend well as Dempo kept on attacking. Mario Mascarenhas saw his goal bound shot parried by the rival keeper. Earlier, Salgaocar's U-20 player Ribhav Sardessai's long range effort missed the target by whiskers, while Brian Mascarenhas also saw his shot sail over the bar.
Dempo SC's Beevan headed home to send the crowd on their feet only to see the linesman flag it offside. However, the Golden Eagles took the lead just before the break through Kapil Hoble who scored with a simple tap-in off a Beevan D'Mello's assist.
Crossing over, Dempo kept on pressing for their second goal. Beevan was yet again denied by the crossbar when his powerful header which beat the keeper hit the bar and came back into the play. Minutes later, Salgaocar keeper Abijit Das came out with a brilliant save to deny Dempo's Nestor Dias. The Panaji-based club finally doubled the lead in the 73rd minute through Yogesh Kadam. Dempo SC move to the top of the table with nine points from three outings.
