Bangalore University's attempt to honour Rahul Dravid with a honorary doctorate has hit the wall. The U-19 Indian team coach Rahul Dravid made it to the headlines once again after rejecting the doctorate. It was to be presented at University's 52nd Convocation on January 27. This is not the first time Dravid has rejected an honorary doctorate, the first time being in 2014 when he had rejected Gulbarga University, Karnataka. In his letter written to the Bangalore University, the former India captain said that he would try to earn a doctorate degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of the sport rather than receiving an honorary degree.

Social media was abuzz and Dravid received a tremendous amount of praise for his decision while they lampooned others such as Vijay Mallya, also from Dravid's home-state of Karnataka, for having accepted these kind of honorary degrees in the past.
