Even as the North District Magistrate notified the fourth phase of pay parking in Panaji, covering areas like Miramar and St Inez, its implementation will be done after three months. Also, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), the implementing agency, has decided not to have any more paid parking areas within its jurisdiction.

Earlier this month, the district magistrate notified new areas for pay parking that included Miramar Circle, near Sulabh Toilet (Miramar Beach), near Maruti Temple, Miramar, the stretch of road from Caculo Islands near Pharmacy College via St Inez Church up to Culvert near Thomas Garage at St Inez (Mahatma Gandhi road and Vassudev V Dempo road), the stretch of road from St Inez Cemetery upto High Mast near Madhuban building St Inez, Dr Dada Vaidya road, Dr Braganza Pereira road (Municipal Quarters to Kala Academy/D. B. road) and Gama Pinto road (Municipal Quarters to Hotel Palacio).

“This will be the fourth and final phase of pay parking implementation. We are not going to cover any more areas under paid parking. We have covered the maximum,” City Mayor Rohit Monserrate told 'The Goan'.

He said that the final phase of pay parking would be implemented after three months as the Corporation will release a tender inviting bids after Ganesh Chaturthi.

“The entire process will take at least three to four months. Once the fourth phase is implemented, most of the areas in Panaji will come under pay parking,” Monserrate said.

Monserrate clarified that the access to the residential houses, business premises and other buildings will not be blocked. Also, he said, the parking fees will remain the same.

At present, CCP charges Rs 20 for a four-wheeler for the first hour and Rs 10 for a two-wheeler with additional charges thereafter. The first phase of pay parking was introduced in 2019, followed by the second phase in 2020. In January, this year, the third phase came into force.
