PANAJI: Amid Ganesh Chaturthi fervour today, Goa’s political stage saw a reshuffle as the government announced portfolios for two newly inducted ministers and minor changes for sitting ministers.
Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has been entrusted with the Public Works Department (PWD), Captain of Ports and Legal Metrology, while Speaker-turned-minister Ramesh Tawadkar has taken the charge of Art & Culture, Tribal Welfare and Sports in the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet.
Among the existing ministers, Subhash Phaldessai has been given additional responsibility of Drinking Water, but relieved of Archives and Archaeology. Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has been given Museum & Gazetteer as additional portfolios while he lost Housing from his charge.
The portfolios of Law and Judiciary as well as Environment — earlier held by Aleixo Sequeira, who resigned citing personal reasons last week — remain unassigned. CM Sawant will retain these portfolios along with other unallocated departments.
The announcement came after a marathon meeting between Sawant and the new ministers at his official residence on Tuesday evening.
Kamat and Tawadkar were sworn in last week in a cabinet expansion that was anticipated to see portfolio allocation on Monday, but the announcement was delayed by two days.
