Questions lack of clarity on boundaries, reserved seats as municipal elections approach

Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai launching the bandhara works costing Rs 5 crore in the Chandrawado area of Fatorda constituency on Monday.
MARGAO
Goa Forward Party supremo Vijai Sardesai on Monday said the party will soon knock the doors of the High Court with a writ petition seeking direction to the government or the State Election Commission to expedite the process of delimitation of Municipal wards and reservation of seats.
He told the media after launching bandhara work at Chandrawaddo-Fatorda amounting to Rs 5 crore that the party has decided to file the writ petition given that the government and the SEC is silent on both delimitation of wards and reservation of seats. “When the elections are scheduled in March-April, we have not seen any activity on the ground on delimitation of wards and reservation of seats. This situation suits the ruling dispensation, but goes against the spirit of democracy as the Opposition has no idea of the delimitation of wards and reservation of seats,” he added.
To a question whether the party is geared up for the upcoming Municipal election, the Goa Forward chief replied in the positive, saying the party is fully prepared for the civic polls. Referring to the statement made by PWD Minister Digambar Kamat that he is all ready for the upcoming civic polls, Sardesai said, “If he is ready, the Margao MLA should tell about the changes in the delimitation of wards and reservation of seats. For the moment, only the ruling MLAs and Ministers are aware of the seats which would fall in the reserved category.”
BITS students’ death issue
On the sixth death reported at the BITS Pilani, Sardesai said the government should have intervened by now to find out the causes behind the deaths. “But, the government is shying away from initiating action when it comes to the Birlas, be it education or land. The deaths have brought bad name for Goa when local youth have not benefited by BITS Pilani in terms of enrolment or employment,” he added.
Inaugurating the commencement of construction of open-type bandharas and protection works to the nullah at Komlevol, Chandrawado, he said the works would strengthen water flow management and provide protection to the surrounding locality, particularly during the monsoon.
