Goa is slowly changing from a place known only for holidays into a hub that supports ideas, creativity, and innovation. This was clear at the 13th edition of ‘First Friday’, a monthly event that focuses on sustainable design, community involvement, and building Goa’s creative economy.

The event was held at the Surendrababu Timblo Hall, GCCI, and was organised by the Creative Community of Goa (CCG) in partnership with the Association of Designers of India (ADI) – Goa Chapter. It was supported by the Startup & IT Promotion Cell of the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Government of Goa.

Architect and designer Deeksha Thind gave the keynote talk on permaculture and design. She explained that permaculture is not just a technique, but a way of thinking — working with nature where each element has a role, and resources are reused. “Goa attracts creative minds, but real change starts with understanding the place and the people,” she said.

Thind, who founded Saraya Eco Stays in Goa, also shared how her work is based on using local materials, working with the community, and living sustainably. “At Saraya, we follow the land, not fight it. We keep learning and changing with time,” she added.

The event ended with an open discussion where people shared feedback on the draft policy. Suggestions included stronger links between creative work and local communities, schools, and businesses.
