Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira on Wednesday accused the State government of trying to intimidate citizens, saying such attempts would fail. “The government is afraid of the voice of the people,” Ferreira said outside the Panaji Police Station, where he had been summoned in connection with an FIR against him.
The case relates to alleged unlawful assembly and traffic obstruction during a protest outside a minister’s residence.
Ferreira criticised the government for avoiding accountability. He said that during an earlier hunger strike, protestors were asked to raise the issue in the Assembly, but the session was later called off. He added that subsequent developments showed inconsistency. Calling the FIR baseless, Ferreira argued that no laws were violated. Terming it a “fit case for quashing,” he said the move was meant to frighten citizens.
