Congress media chairman Pawan Khera on Thursday said the INDIA alliance if voted to power will amend the Xth Schedule of the Constitution, attracting immediate disqualification of MLAs and MPs as soon as they leave their political party.

"At least 10-15 BJP-led State governments will collapse," Khera said once the amendment happens.

Khera, the AICC media department head who is a 'star campaigner' for the Congress arrived in Goa and addressed a press conference at the party headquarters in Panaji.

"BJP has made a mockery of democracy. by importing MLAs and weakening the Opposition. Hence we have decided to amend the Xth Schedule and make it strong," Khera said.

On local issues, Khera alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to turn Goa into a coal hub. "Goa is a jewel of our country and Congress will not allow BJP to convert it into a coal hub," Khera said.

Responding to questions on BJP’s claim of winning over 400 seats, Khera said: "After the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, the Prime Minister fears defeat. Hence he has started to spread more lies to divert attention public attention from burning issues.".

Khera, meanwhile, raised concern over what he alleged were significant discrepancies in voter turnout figures of the first two phases.

The Election Commission of India has come under severe criticism for the delay in putting out the voter turnouts of the first two phases. When it did a couple of days ago, there was an increase of nearly 3 percentage points from the preliminary figures made public on the day of voting and the final figures uploaded by the ECI.

Khera indicated that the Congress plans to dig deeper into the issue and may formally approach the Election Commission for a clarification.

Congress State president, Amit Patkar, accused the BJP of attempting to divert attention from real issues and urged the media to question Union Home Minister Amit Shah, when he comes to Goa, on his party's stand on the Xth schedule of the Constitution.

Patkar also questioned the silence of the BJP's woman candidate from South Goa on the Prajwal Revanna sex scandal in neighbouring Karnataka.

AICC Media in-charge, Harshad Sharma, GPCC vice-president Sunil Khautankar and GPCC media in-charge Amarnath Panjikar were also present at Khera's press conference.
