SDMA directs vigilance and preparedness ahead of monsoons

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting early and heavy rains this monsoon, Chairman of the State Disaster Management Authority Sandip Jacques has directed all departments to remain vigilant during potential emergencies.

During a meeting to review pre-monsoon preparedness, Jacques further stressed the importance of training staff and ensuring preparedness to save lives during disasters.

Highlighting the recent disaster in Mumbai caused by hoardings, Jacques instructed authorities in Goa to stay vigilant and highlighted the need for a swift and effective response to any adverse situations during the monsoon.

He also spoke on the importance of being prepared and proactive, ensuring that all departments are available 24/7. He instructed departments to focus on hazardous areas identified from past experiences, such as landslides, floods, and dangerous trees that could impact the public.

The Additional Collectors of both collectorates informed that control rooms have been set up with adequate infrastructure to handle potential crises. Jacques also reviewed the readiness of all line departments, instructing the CCP and Panaji Smart City to take maximum precautions before the monsoon.

Additionally, Jacques suggested the installation of the SACHET mobile app, which provides alerts for potential disasters.

The meeting discussed topics, including the functioning of control rooms, identification of flood and landslide-prone areas, evacuation plans, desilting of drains, and the status of Smart City works.
