Ok Jaanu

Director: Shaad Ali

Starring: Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor, Nasseruddin Shah, Leela Samson

Ok Jaanu is your usual Bollywood love story filled with way too many unbelievable cliches, eye rolling moments and nonsensical scenes. Basically nothing that hasn't been told or portrayed on screen before.

Adi ( Aditya Roy Kapur) is a game designer in Lucknow who dreams of making it big and moving to the US.He happens to meet Tara (Shraddha Kapoor) by chance at a common friend's wedding and the two hit it off immediately. With cell phone usage strictly disallowed in church, the two still manage to have their first conversation with each other while sitting on opposite benches in church without anyone at all scolding them or even being perturbed by it. How? Well, Bollywood. Anyway, neither of them think too highly about marriage and all that jazz and Tara especially made a vow to herself when she was quite young to never marry after witnessing the messy divorce of her parents. So instead they embark on a no strings relationship. And while Adi's landlord (Nasseruddin Shah) is pretty old fashioned in his ways, he thaws and allows Tara to live together with Adi after Tara's magical voice leaves his wife who is suffering from Alzheimers enchanted. There isn't much suspense or major climax in this film really as viewers can pretty much guess where the film is headed long before the first half even ends.Although it is a little tough to understand when Adi ever works considering he seems to be following Tara around almost everyday, even hoping on a trip with her when she goes off to Ahmedabad on a work project. Oh and despite being middle class earning people, they somehow manage to book a luxurious honeymoon suite while they are there. But hey, anything is possible in a movie. Also, if you're girl is mad at you and for some reason begins walking around aimlessly in the city and you get tired of following her, it's ok to just ask a random girl on a bike in the street whether she can give you a lift and then tail your sweetheart. Perfectly ok. Also, could the couple stop saying 'ok jaanu' to each other every 10 minutes or so? The viewers know that it's the title of the film , you don't need to keep drilling it into their heads.

But even though the tale is pretty predictable, devoid of much logic and punctuated by way too many songs, you will find yourself wanting to watch the film to the end and be plenty entertained. Reason? Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor have some amazing chemistry between them and that pretty much lifts the whole story up. So although it's nothing memorable, it's still a recommended film for a date night.

BOX

Ok Jaanu is an official remake of Mani Ratnam's Tamil film O Kadhal Kanmani starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen.

A. R. Rahman has composed the film's score and soundtrack.

The film sees Shraddha Kapoor Aditya Roy Kapur returning to screen after the gigantic success of Aashiqui 2.

One of the film songs Humma Humma has been severely criticised by many on social media. The tune is a re-hashed version of Rahman's famous song from Mani Ratnam's Bombay and was recreated by Tanishk Baagchi with additional rap by Baadshah.

Goan singer Remo Fernandes who did the playback singing in the original track also slammed the new tune referring to it as a pale and insipid version of the original
