A 21-year-old MBA student from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, identified as Ishan Singh Badgujar, died under suspicious circumstances at Vagator in the early hours of Saturday. The cause of death is suspected to be either a drug overdose or a heart attack.
According to information, a group of nine MBA students from Indore had arrived in Goa on a tour. On Friday night, the group visited Rita Club Restaurant in Vagator and later exited around 2 am, heading towards their vehicle.
At that time, Ishan reportedly began to feel unwell and suddenly collapsed. His friends rushed him in their vehicle to a private hospital in Vagator. However, they were advised to take him to a government hospital as it was a medico-legal case. The group then proceeded to Mapusa.
Two private hospitals in Mapusa also declined to admit him. He was eventually taken to the North Goa District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 3:30 am.
Upon receiving information, Anjuna police conducted a panchnama and sent the body to Goa Medical College for post-mortem examination.
After the autopsy was conducted in the afternoon, the body was handed over to the family.
Preliminary examinations suggest the possibility of a drug overdose or a cardiac arrest. However, doctors have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report. Viscera samples have been preserved for further laboratory analysis.
Further investigation is being carried out by Sub-Inspector Viraj Naik under the supervision of Police Inspector Suraj Gawas.
Reacting to the incident, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said appropriate action will be taken if the cause of death is related to any substance or chemical, other than natural death. He said he has spoken to the in-charge Police Inspector with regards to the case.
