Set 24-hour deadline for arrests; warn of protest march

More complaints were lodged at the Margao police station in the overseas recruitment racket.
MARGAO
As more complaints are lodged in the overseas recruitment scam, victims have demanded that the case be handed over to the Crime Branch for a thorough investigation.
The victims have set 24-hour deadline to the police to arrest all those involved in the scam. They have threatened to hold a morcha to the police station within 48 hours if the culprits are not arrested forthwith.
A group of victims from South Goa led by activist Savio Goes visited the Margao police station to lodge their complaints in the recruitment racket. They also called on South Goa Superintendent of Police, Santosh Desai and requested to hand over the investigations to the Crime Branch.
Briefing the media, Savio Goes said that handing the investigations to the Crime Branch will help unravel the involvement of all the accused persons involved in fleecing gullible Goan youngsters by promising overseas jobs.
“It appears that this is not just an ordinary racket, but a well organised scam by a couple of people operating in Goa and Punjab. We have information that this racket has been going on since 2002. We will get the details if the case is handed over to the Crime Branch for a detailed probe,” he added.
A woman relative of a victim told the media that she had pawned her gold ornaments just to arrange money in order to give to the recruitment agency.
A person from Sanvordem told the media that he was sent to Armenia by the agent with good salary, but added that he was left to fend for himself in the country. Another person from Panchwadi-Shiroda said that youngsters have been sent abroad to work in the agricultural fields when they were promised lucrative jobs.
