Giving an emphasis to speedy action in implementation of the Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project, Karnataka has set aside Rs 1,000 crore for the implementation of the controversial Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project in this budget.
The Karnataka government has also planned a Karwar-Goa-Mumbai waterways on the PPP model.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai presented an all-inclusive budget for Karnataka for 2023-24 on Friday during the ongoing Budget Session of State Legislature.
Bommai also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for sanctioning Rs 5,300 crore to the Upper Bhadra project which provides irrigation facility for the districts of Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, Chitradurga and Davangere and for giving approval for the detailed project report (DPR).
“By consistent efforts of the present government, approval has been obtained from the Central Water Commission for the detailed project report (DPR) for utilisation of 3.90 TMC water allocated by Mahadayi Tribunal for Kalasa-Bandoora Nala Thiruvu Yojane (Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project)). For this, I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister and Union Government on behalf of the people of the state,” Chief Minister Bommai said.
“It is proposed to provide Rs 1,000 crore to commence the works. Speedy actions will be taken for the implementation of this project,” added Bommai.
He also emphasised that this Budget is a promise for development and better future.
“With a sense of fulfilment of implementing the programmes formulated for bright future of Karnataka in this financial year, I am presenting this budget towards fulfilling the vision of responsibilities, targets and results for the next 25 years,” Bommai stated.
The total receipts are estimated to be Rs 3,03,910 crore during 2023-24. The total expenditure is estimated to be Rs 3,09,182 crore which includes revenue expenditure at Rs 2,25,507 crore, capital expenditure at Rs 61,234 crore and loan repayment at Rs 22,441 crore.
Karwar-Goa-Mumbai waterways will be developed on the PPP model, Bommai stated further.
Meanwhile, people of North Karnataka have expressed their happiness over the allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for the Kalsa-Bhandura project implementation and have expressed confidence that the work on the project would commence soon.
