Mel Gibson seems to be on a roll and has turned his life around both in Hollywood and his personal life. Gibson just received his first Oscar nomination for Best Director in 21 years where he took home a director Oscar for Braveheart in 1996. Soon after winning that Oscar for the epic war film, the actor and director has been battling controversies and many in Hollywood had turned against him. The tide seems to be turning in his favour after his latest film Hacksaw Ridge , a World War II drama, receiving nominations by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the Golden Globes. At the Oscars, the movie has racked up a total of six nominations at the Oscars and is tied with Lion and Manchester by the Sea and behind La La Land, Arrival and Moonlight. Gibson is the only one who has been nominated previously among the other best director nominees.
Hacksaw Ridge is about Desmond Doss, the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a shot and for saving 75 people. Played by Andrew Garfield, who has also been nominated for best actor, this is Gibson’s first film as a director since 2006 and his fifth directorial effort overall. The 61 year old's good fortune did not step there, he has just become the father of his ninth child, a son named Lars Gerard Gibson.

Happy for #HacksawRidge & #MelGibson. Probably won't win any major #Oscars (unfortunately) but all 6 #OscarNoms are well deserved.
